Audi Quattro A2 - Lasse Lampi - Rally Finland 1983

This time a bit simpler livery for you all.

This livery is again from a pace-wise capable privateer. Or, well not a privateer in this rally. Lasse Lampi was a reliable test driver for Audi during it's stay in the WRC. Lampi had also competed in Finnish national series with Audi and he had impressed the said German car manufacturer in such way that they gave Lasse a factory spec Quattro A2 for Rally Finland, but he had to get the service crew himself. Lampi has said later on that he probably would've gotten a factory drive / larger season program if a certain Mr. Röhrl didn't join Audi.

The rally itself wasn't too bad for Lasse and Pentti. Way better than Juuso's rally in 2004 at least. Lasse and Pentti drove through the rally racking up multiple top 10 times. Lasse even won one stage in the rally. His first in his history of Rally Finland. Also on the route Lasse took one jump a bit too fast and it broke his seat's backrest. He described he had to hold on to the steering wheel to stay upright at some places.

Despite his troubles (and triumphs) Lasse finished the rally eventually in seventh position which is a damn respectable result in a demanding rally as Rally Finland has always been. Ahead of Lampi were Mikkola, Blomqvist, Alen, Eklund and Airikkala. All of which have won a WRC event during their careers.

Lampi is more known (especially for younger fans such as myself) as the trusted Mitsubishi test driver and as the guy behind Tommi Mäkinen's success on Mitsubishi. But he's a damn fine driver too and deserves credit for his career and accomplishments in rallying. Now you guys can go and try your best to match Lasse's level of driving yourself.
