Mäkinen - World Rally Legend.
That's what it says on the hood of the car, and for a reason too. Tommi Mäkinen is easily one of the greatest rally drivers in the history of rallying. Winning four world titles in a row as the first driver ever. Later on some Sebastiens from France matched and surpassed him in the amount of back to back championships. That doesn't make Tommi's accomplishments any lesser though.
Tommi was my idol when I was a small boy. I was lucky enough to even get his autograph and a picture with me in his lap as a wee little boy. It was my most valued treasure when I was a child. Well it still is.
This rally in question was the last competitive effort of Tommi as he had announced earlier he would retire from professional rallying after the 2003 season. Tommi got a neat special sticker on his bonnet and a nice ceremony celebrating his career in the WRC. In the rally itself Tommi didn't disappoint his fans, finishing 3rd and therefore on the podium, in his final rally. Not quite the high we had gotten used to before but still a nice farewell from Tommi to us.
