 A year ago the rallying world got hit with sad news. Hannu Mikkola had passed away. To pay my tribute to the great late legend of rallying, I've replicated Hannu's livery from his last WRC event win with the mighty Ford Escort Mk II. The rally in question is of course the 1979 Lombard RAC Rally.  Sadly, due to me being on a deadline to release this still on the 25th, and due to eWRC-results being down, I can't give much more info about the rally than that Hannu won the rally by 10 minutes and 29 seconds ahead of Russell Brookes. This car's original skin had a spelling error on Mikkola's name, so I had to make another skin for it. Also as Mikkola is known as Mr. 1000 Lakes Rally, it's fitting that I made the livery from there. Initially this was supposed to be one of the skins on the RBR skins advent calendar, but I ended up scrapping the idea. I'll upload all the skins I've made so far during spring. The rally wasn't too great for Hannu, as the car was quite horrible (duh), and Hannu's rally ended on SS3 as he went off. Hannu's pace on the first two stages was promising, as he was 5th fastest on both. This skin was somewhat hard to make as there are no photos of this car that I know of in the internet.  This is probably one of the greatest comeback drives in the history of rallying. In my opinion it highlighted Hannu's never give up attitude so I had no choice but to recreate the livery.  In the 1983 Rally Finland Hannu had more than enough issues throughout the event. He broke the front diff and gearbox on the first stage, and because those took so long to repair, he was late from a time control point. Hannu got a time penalty of 110 seconds after the first stage already, and he dropped down to the 143th position. Hannu clawed his way back to second in the rally, being only behind teammate Stig Blomqvist.  The gap is some 15 seconds between the two. After Hannu had pretty much caught Stig, his Audi suffered a petrol leak and the engine caught fire. Hannu almost was late from the time control as the repairs for the damages took very long. The rallying world lost one of it's greats on February 26th. Hannu Mikkola passed away at the age of 78 after a long battle with cancer. As a tribute, I wanted to do this livery, and one other from Hannu's career. I wanted to have this and 1979 Rally Portugal liveries available, when OLD Rally has it's Rally Portugal in a few weeks. I'll be running these two liveries there as a tribute to Hannu. In this rally, Hannu managed to finish second. Only behind the undisputed king of Rally Portugal, Markku Alen. But next year Hannu got his revenge and he took first of his three wins here in Portugal. Sadly this 3d model is not the greatest, so we can't have 100% accurate copy of Hannu's car. For example the extra lights are lacking, and the texture mapping in them is so bad, that it's better to just not use the lights.  I hope to see as many of you as possible rocking some liveries of Hannu in the near future to pay your respects to one of the all time greats in the...

 Long time no see mates! But now I'm back with a proper old school livery! This is Hannu Mikkola's livery from the 1982 Arnold Clark Scottish Rally. The rally where he did an amazing comeback drive. Although it was aided quite well by the fact that Mikkola was the only 4WD car in the rally. Regardless of the drive type, no rally car drives itself.  Mikkola's rally begun with a disaster. On the first stage he had a steering failure early on on the stage. Him and co-driver Arne Hertz tried to repair the car on the spot without succeeding. Eventually Mikkola decided to reverse (yes, reverse.) the car to the finish. It took him 8 and a half minutes to get to the end of the stage and he was in last place after the first special stage.  In the end (partly thanks to other top level drivers retiring), Mikkola ended up winning the rally by over 10 minutes ahead of the second placed Jimmy McRae. FINALLY WE'VE GOT OURSELVES AN ESCORT MK II IN NGP6! Goes without saying that I'm hyped. The addition of this car provides endless (really.) opportunities to make skins of Finnish drivers. I started here with an "easy" one, so I could get a Finnish skin for this car for an episode of Maximum Attack Mondays . This rally happened soooooo long ago, that I have not got much information of it. So I will not tell much about Hannu's rally then. He did win though ahead of his teammate late great Björn Waldegård.
